Module 1: Course Design and Planning

In Module 1, participants learn how to set learning and training goals according to the job and workplace requirements of their learners. They learn how to design a course and plan individual lessons around learners’ communication and the resulting language needs. The usefulness and relevance of a competency framework such as the Common European Framework is understood with hands-on tasks and activities.

In Module 1, language trainers learn how to:

  • analyse job descriptions and define communication needs
  • define current skills and identify target skills according to the CEF
  • plan a course and develop detailed lesson plans
  • identify and apply relevant functional language and communication training techniques
  • select appropriate media and method
  • apply feedback and evaluation techniques for skills training
  • report their training approach and results in a manner appropriate for Human Resource Development and business managers.
